Take advantage of the offseason to cover your soil - whether it be by growing a living mulch, or just mulching with any organic material, or maybe even covering with a tarp - in addition to eliminating weed pressure, keeping the root in the soil, as well as some organic material, and then covering it creates a magical environment under it.
